Senior citizens learn how to use a smartphone in a classroom setting.

WEDG, a grassroots community organization established in 2014, provides resources for sustainable and thriving communities. Thanks to this partnership with the Great Aloha Run, Senior Citizens living outside of Central Oahu were able to participate in the 1-hour class designed to assist Kupuna in basic smartphone concepts including:

• Texting
• Taking photos
• Use of the Internet

Classes took place at the Pineapple Crate, located at 1012 Whitmore Ave in Wahiawa Hawaii. The Pineapple Crate is WEDGʻs premier community resource venue where people come together to learn and support community efforts.

A huge challenge is learning how to use a smartphone and tap into all its capabilities. With technology moving so quickly, smartphones today come equipped with so many different features, including applications that could be life saving.

“Passing on knowledge from one generation to another.” A value well suited for all groups involved. Classes provide participants a way to have fun and develop a level of comfort with their mobile devices. Fun which can be seen in the gallery of snapshots below.
