more than just a run

Sounds of Freedom

What is Sounds of Freedom?SOF-Start

Sounds of Freedom is for active duty service men and women from all branches of service. The Sounds of Freedom is not a chip timed race. It is a march with all branches in their units calling out cadence, running in formation in PT gear, as “The Sounds of Freedom”!

How to register for the Sounds of Freedom

Sounds of Freedom may register for the GAR through their unit SOF coordinator as a group. You may find the SOF unit registration form on the bottom of this page. The entry donation is $15 per service member. Please do not register with the “OFFICAL ENTRY FORM” or “MILITARY ENTRY FORM”, as these forms are for the general public, and service men and women NOT running in formation.

What to do race morning

Your unit SOF coordinator will pick up your run numbers prior to race day, and issue them out on the bus race morning. You may only take the military buses from your assigned base for SOF. The buses at the stadium are for the general public & will NOT take you to the SOF start line! The SOF buses are for SOF participants ONLY. Family members and friends may register for the GAR, but under “Military” and cannot use the buses provided for the Sounds of Freedom runners.

The SOF ready line is on Punchbowl Street in downtown Honolulu. The finish line is just to the left of the GAR finish line inside Aloha Stadium. You will receive your GAR SOF FINISHER t-shirt, as well as food and beverage. Your buses back to your duty stations will be waiting for you. Please line up and wait for your unit BEFORE you load back onto the buses.
